Cutting-edges, shaping and treating.-A small grindstone or the like c turned by a handle n<1> is provided with means for detachably securing it to the blade i of a hatchet or like implement. The side a of the frame carrying the grindstone is provided with an extension f<1> terminating in a loop h, by means of which the device is slidably mounted on a screw shaft h<1> provided with an end grip j and slidable grips k for clamping the device to the blade of the hatchet. Rests p, p<1> for steadying and supporting the device on the edge of the blade are adjustably secured by nuts r, r<1> to slots in the side of the frame. In a modification the plate a is formed with an integral strip which is bent to form the sides and end of the frame, the rests p, p<1> being formed in one piece with the strip and then bent into shape. A loose clamp may be provided for securing the device to a table for use in sharpening knives &c.
