23,503. Emrick, W. J. Oct. 24. Fluid bearings.-In a thrust bearing for shafts, of the kind in which oil is pumped to one side or the other of a disk 3 enclosed in a casing 2, the stuffing-boxes 14 are relieved from pressure by providing annular collecting- channels 16 in the casing 2. Independent passages 17 conduct the oil from the channels 16 to a discharge space 18, from which it returns through a pipe 19 to the reservoir 6. A threeway cock 10 controls the passage of oil from a pump 8 to one of the inlet pipes 11, 12. In a modification, a number of disks 3 are used, each being enclosed in a separate chamber in the casing 2.
