Washing-machines with rubbing-apparatus.- In machines comprising a rotary tub and a rubbing-board 9, which have motion towards and from each other, the board is rotatably mounted so that it may turn with the clothes. The board may be mounted in ball bearings and may be depressed by a spiral spring 6 or through the medium of an air or liquid cushion. The tub may be given a rising and falling motion by means of a cam 1 on which run rollers 2 mounted on a yoke pivoted to a ring 7 secured to the tub spindle. Other means for raising and lowering the tub may be employed, such as eccentrics or crank mechanism acting directly or through a lever upon the tub spindle. Vertical movement may be given to the rubbing- board, instead of to the tub, by connecting the cross-piece 8 to crank mechanism.
