UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GENIE 'MOKISSIC, OF ARDMORE, INDIAN TERRITORY.
WASHING ND wnmeme MACHINE.
SPECIFICATIQN fOrmingpart of Letters Patent N 0. 711,672, dated October 21, 1902.
7 Application filed January 23,1902. Serial No. 90,890. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GENIE MoKIssIo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ardmore, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Washing and Wringing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates toa combined clothes washing and wringing machine; and the object of the invention is to provide a machine of such novel and peculiar construction and arrangement of parts that the washer-driving mechanism will operate the wringer mechanism.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, Figure 1 is an elevation of the machine applied to a tub, showing the latter partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of part of the machine. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of the springcontrolled wringer-roller. Fig. 4'is a perspective view of the L-shaped bearing bracket. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the bearingplate.
The same numeral references denote the same parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
The table 1 is provided with guides 2, in which arms 2, having forked ends 3, are held and adjustably secured to a tub 4: by setscrews 5. This arrangement will admit of the machine being applied to tubs or other vessels of various size. The top of the table is provided with curved rests 6, over which the clothes travel during the wringing thereof and which keeps the clothes elevated out of the Water wrung therefrom. A plate 7 is secured to the table 1 and has an ear 8,
through which the end 9 of an angle-journal 9 works and is controlled by a spiral spring 10, working against a flange 10. A like angle-journal 8 has its end 9 working in and through an arm 11 of the L-shaped bearingbracket 12 and is controlled by a spring 13, working against a flange 10. Upon the journals 8 and 9 is loosely mounted one of the wringer-rollers 14, having a gear 15,meshing with a gear 16 of the other wringer-roller 17,
cured thereto.
which is fixed to a shaft 18, having its top bearing in the bracket 12 and its bottom bearing in a lug 7 of the plate 7. The bottom end of the shaft 18 has an agitator 19 se- Motion is imparted to the gears by a toothed hand-wheel 20, journaled in the bracket 12, which is supported from the table 1 by braces 21. The journals 8 and 9, being separated, admit of the roller 14 being conveniently mounted thereon and their being readily secured in position relative to each other.
It will be seen that upon turning the handwheel motion will be imparted to the agitator and to the wringerrollers simultaneously, and the washed clothes are supported by the curved rests and worked through the rollers by the revolution of the latter. The roller being controlled by-the springs permits the passage therethrough of clothes or articles of various thickness.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a washing and wringing machine, the combination with the main shaft, a Wringerroller having a pinion and secured to the shaft, the angle journals, a wringer-roller loose upon the journals and having a gear to mesh with the pinion, the springs to control the movement of the angle-shaft, and a handgear meshing with the pinion.
2. The combination, with the table, the bearing-plate secured to the table, and the L- shaped bearing-bracket supported from the table, of the journals working through the plate and in the bracket, the springs controlling the journals, a geared roller loose on the said journals, a shaft, a roller fixed to the shaft and havinga pinion to mesh with said roller-gear, and a hand-gear meshing with the pinion.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses- GENIE MOKISSIO. Witnesses:
EDM. T. GREEN, E. M. MoKIssIo.
