Abstract
19,765. Rheinische Metallwaaren-und Maschinenfabrik. April 6, [Convention date]. Field carriages; recoil apparatus.-Relates to devices for automatically changing the elevation of a gun from the firing to the loading elevation during the recoil. According to the invention, liquid is forced, during the recoil, from cylinders i, separate from the recoil brake cylinders and arranged one on each side of the gun, into cylinders c carried by the slide, and acts upon pistons d connected to arms a on the elevating- gear segments. The breech-end of the gun is thereby raised, and may be retained in the raised position by cocks which are automatically actuated to close the communication l between the cylinders c, i at the end of the recoil. The pistons g of the cylinders i slide on their rods against springs x during the initial period of the recoil until the automatic disconnexion, after the projectile has left the gun-barrel, of the latch e, connecting the slide b and the elevating- gear, permits relative movement to take place between the cylinders c and pistons d. In a modification, liquid is forced from the brake cylinders, in known manner, into lifting- cylinders, but in this case, the lost motion is provided for. between the rods of the pistons d and the arms a on the elevating-gear segments.
