Abstract
18,869. Willison, J. Aug. 22. [Addition to 18,461/11.] Couplings, automatic.-Comprises (1) the substitution of a chain or like flexible member for the knuckle-opening rod to facilitate operation from any part of the vehicle, and (2) a modification of the device for locking the locking-block. (1) The inner end of the chain 16, Fig. 8, is secured to the knuckle tail by a T-headed pin 17, and the chain passes thence under the leg 9 of the locking-block 8 and through a lateral hole 18 in the coupler head to an operating-lever disposed at any part of the vehicle. (2) To hold the block 8 locked in the coupled position, the upper rear corner 10<a>, Fig. 9, of the block engages a recess 13<a> in the rear wall of the coupler head.
