Abstract
8641. Johnston, G., and Wells, A. E. April 10. [Addition to 9970/06.] Couplings, automatic; couplings, automatic, convertible to non - automatic.-The automatic couplings described in the parent Specification are adapted for coupling to central non-automatic couplings; and an improved device is provided for raising the coupling-bolt for uncoupling. The coupling-head a, Figs. 1 and 2, is swivelled on the draw-bar g, and can be connected to a central - buffer non - automatic coupling by a single link c and drop-pin e. The face a is strengthened to withstand buffing, and a rectangular orifice b is formed in it leading to the pin e. For raising the coupling-bolt h, Figs. 4 and 5, a cam-surface f<2> on a lever f<3> engages the coupling-bolt or a projection h<1> thereon. The lever f<3> can be operated from the side of the vehicle, and locked in the shunting or coupling positions.
