Abstract

Boot-sole sewing-machines; lock-stitching by hooks.-The sewing-thread loop drawn through the work by a hook-needle 7 is caught and spread by a broad hook 23 and passed over a stationary spool-case 29 loosely supported in an oblique position below the work-support by the machine frame. The hook 23 is secured to an arm 22 of a lever 18, pivoted at one end to the end of a lever 17 and supported at the other end by a bowl 19 which runs in a stationary groove 20. The groove is widened at 21 so that, when an extension 24 of the lever 18 is struck by the upper end of a needle-driving pitman 8<1>, the lever 18 and the hook 23 are given a sudden upward movement. The lever 17 is oscillated by pin-and-slot engagement with an arm 13 of a cam-actuated lever 9.
