Abstract
16,331. Gibb, A. S. July 15. Fluids, regulating volume of flow of.-Relates to self-regulating apparatus of the kind described in Specification 9669/06, [Class 68, Hydraulic engineering], for maintaining a constant discharge of liquid from a source of supply of varying head applicable for irrigation or filter - bed purposes. In the present construction, a D-shaped chamber B, through which the liquid passes from D to G, is fitted with vertical baffle-plates A, the lower edges of which are cut away so as to form a channel J, the cross-section of which is similar to that of the stream of liquid flowing through. The chamber B may be closed at the top, or it may be made sufficiently high to be left open, as shown in Fig. 2. The lower edges of the baffle-plates A may be curved to meet the flowing stream, so as to counteract more efficiently any tendency to an increased flow resulting from increase of supply. The plates may be raised or lowered by means of bolts and thumb-nuts to vary the quantity of flow.
