Abstract

Fluids, regulating volume of flow of.-Relates to means for restricting the quantity of water delivered for irrigation and like purposes of the type and under circumstances similar to those set forth in Specification 15615/12, [Class 33, Drains &c.]. A conduit, extending from the submerged orifice C in the stream B to the channel D, consists of a base portion F and an upper portion F<2> rising from a head opening F<1> in the base portion F. The base portion F, which may be a pipe, is of circular, elliptical, square, or rectangular cross-section, to correspond with that of the orifice C, and its cross-sectional area may increase, decrease, or remain stationary along its length. The width of the head opening F<1> increases from the orifice end towards the channel D, in any degree to from zero to the full width of the base portion F, the divergence being regular or varying gradually. The walls of the upper portion F<2> may be vertical or slope inwardly or outwardly. The bed of the base portion F is preferably horizontal. A level gauge may be provided to indicate the rate of flow through the orifice C. The dotted line E represents the standing wave produced.
