Cutting and slicing vegetables &c. - In machines for cutting bacon &c. into slices, strips or cubes by means of sets of circular knives, the lowest knives of the horizontal set are adapted to remove the rind. Fig. 2 shows a plan of the machine in which the meat is fed by hand along the channel 1 under the adjustable spring roller 10 to sets of horizontal knives 3, vertical knives 4, and a single transverse knife 5. After the rind is removed by the knives 3, it is deflected through' a slot 32, Fig. 3, in the channel by arranging the portions 33, 34 of the base of the channel at different levels. To adjust the machine to remove rinds of different thickness, the part 33 of the channel is made adjustable in height; while to slice meat having no rind a packing-strip is inserted in the part 33 to make it level with the part 34.
