VEGETABLE CUTTER.
Application filed June 30, 1922.
T 0 all to from it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLns I. J. NIEL- snN, citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and Stateof Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Vegetable Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a strong, compact, efficient and reliable machine for cutting vegetables into slices, strips or cubes for kitchen use.
The invention will be claimed at the end hereof but will be first described in connection with the embodiment of it chosen for illustration in the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which- Figure l is a top or plan view, and
Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
In the drawings 1 is a base. 27 is a table revolubly mounted on the base and it may well consist of a wooden disk. 7 is a standard rising from the base and arranged to one side of the table 27. 3 is a hollow swinging knife frame pivotally connected with the standard as at 8 and having confronting rows of notches with top and bottom cover plates 16 and 19. Otherwise stated, the ends of the frame are notched clear through like a comb. 2 are a gang of spaced knives or blades mounted in the frame for co-operation with the table and they are provided with tangs arranged in the notches and between the cover plates. 25 is a stripper head connected for up and down adjustment with the standard 7 above the frame pivot 8 and provided with a series of notches and a locking plate 11. The notches do not extend clear through the bottom part ofthe stripper head and at their lower portions are deeper near the standard than they are at the front. 4: are a set of spaced strippers arranged above the table for operation in the spaces between the blades and they are provided with offset hooked shanks arranged in the notches in the stripper head and in engagement with the locking plate. 20 is a stop on the base 1 for limiting the movement of the swinging knife frame.
Serial No. 571,971.
In use the swinging knife frame is turned up as by means of the handle 24 and the vegetables are placed on the table 27 beneath the strippers 4 which may be adjusted up or down. The swinging frame is then turned down and the blades cut the vegetables into slices. The described operation of the swing ing frame may be repeated after the table 27 has been turned so that the vegetables are sliced in the other direction into strips and,
in the case of onions, these strips break up into cubes or dice by reason of the structure of the onions. In the case of other vegetables by a repetition of the described operation they can be sliced a third time into dice.
Evidently the described machine is strong,
compact and reliable and well suited to perform its intended function.
I claim:
1. A vegetable cutter comprising in combination abase, a standard rising from the base, a hollow swinging knife frame pivotally connected with the standard, a gang of spaced knives mounted in the frame for cooperation with the base, a stripper head adjustably and slidably connected with the per head, and a stop for the swinging frame.
2. A vegetable cutter comprising in combination a base, a table revolubly mounted on the base, a standard rising from the base and arranged to one side of the table, a hollow swinging knife frame pivotally connected with the standard, a gang of spaced knives mounted in the frame for co-operation with the table, a stripper head adjust ably connected with the standard above the pivot of the frame, a set of spaced strippers arranged above the table for operation in the spaces provided between the knives and at tached to the stripper head, and a stop for the swinging frame.
