Abstract

12,548. Wickel, F. C. May 24, 1910, [Convention date]. Aerated sprayers; roses.-Diffusers for producing a jet of uniform spray of indefinite width comprises a number of jets formed between a plurality of grooved plates. Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view. Liquid such as paint is supplied by the tubes d, e to the control body c of the nozzle, and compressed air, heated or cooled if necessary, is supplied to the space v between the outer and inner casings from the pipe b. The outer casing a may be moved over the tubes e to vary the width of the openings w, x at the mouth of the portion c. A plate h of V-section and perforated causes the initial disintegration of the liquid, and the gas and liquid become mixed in the chamber o. In front of the plate h is secured a hood m, within which are arranged the plates n, p. The plates n are grooved in the manner shown in Fig. 4, and the plates p in the manner shown in Fig. 5, the grooves s communicating with the upper row of crossings of the grooves q as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 4. The edges of the grooves q may be roughened. The grooves may also be of a variety of forms, the essential feature of them being tortuousness. The air may be at ordinary temperatures or may be omitted entirely, and the nozzle may be used for distributing powders.
