Triarylmethane dyes are obtained by condensing o-halogen-, o-sulpho-, p-mono- or dialkylamino-benzaldehydes, or their substitution products (except pentachlorbenzaldehyde or its derivatives) with one molecule of salicylic or o-cresotinic acid, and one molecule of a substituted salicylic acid substituted in m-position to the oxy group or an oxycarboxylic acid of the benzene or naphthalene series which cannot condense in p-position to the oxy group, and oxidizing the leuco bodies so obtained. The following parent materials are specified:-p-diethylaminobenzaldehyde, benzaldehyde - o - sulphonic acid, 2-chlor-4-diethylaminobenzaldehyde, 2-chlor-5-sulphobenzaldehyde; salicylic acid, ocresotinic acid; m- or p-cresotinic acid, m- or pchlorsalicylic acid, #-resorcylic acid, 2-naphthol- 3-carboxylic acid, 2-naphthol-3-carboxylic-6- or - 8-sulphonic acid. The products dye wool blue shades with chrome mordants. Specifications 15,204/07 and 30,105/10 are referred to.
