Abstract

Anthraquinone derivatives; dyes, artificial.- Leuco-derivatives of 1 4-diamino- or 1 : 4-dialkyldiamino-anthraquinones are obtained by condensirg a leucoquinizarin or a leuco-1 4-aminooxyanthraquinone with ammonia or a monoalkylamine. Suitable parent materials are the leuco-derivatives of quinizarin, 1: 4-aminooxyanthraquinone, 1: 4 : 5- trioxyanthraquinone, 1:4: 5: 6- and 1:4:5:8- tetroxyanthraquinone. These bodies yield on oxidation 1 : 4-diamino- or 1 ; 4-dialkyldiaminoanthraquinones. Sulphonation of these latter bodies in presence of boric acid gives wool dyes of blue to violet tints. Treatment of leuco derivatives of 1 : :4-dioxy- or 1 : 4-aminooxyanthraquinone sulphonic acids with ammonia or monoalkylamines gives dye-stuffs direct ; suitable leuco derivatives are those of 1:4:5- and 1 : 4 :6-quinizarin sulphonic acids and 1 : 4: 5-, 1:4:6-, 1 :4: 7, and 1:4:8- aminooxyanthraquinone sulphonic acids. Leuco- 1 :4-aminooxyanthraquinone-a-sulphonic acids are obtained by reducing with hydrosulphites the 1 : 4- aminooxyanthraquinone-a-sulphonic acids obtained by successively nitrating, reducing, and saponifying 1-methoxyanthraquinone-5- or 8-sulphonic acid.
