Abstract

29,143. Newton, P. A., [Farbenfabriken vorm. F. Bayer & Co.]. Dec. 15. Pentachlorbenzaldehyde is obtained by treating pentachlorbenzal chloride with concentrated or fuming sulphuric acid. Triphenylmethane dyes are obtained by condensing pentachlorbenzaldehyde or pentachlorbenzal chloride with o-oxycarboxylic acids of the benzene series, such as salicylic or o-cresotinic acid, or mixtures thereof, and oxidizing the leuco bodies so obtained. The products dye wool blue shades with chromic mordants. Specification 15,204/07 is referred to. Pentachlorbenzalchloride is obtained by chlorinating benzal chloride, pentachlortoluene, or pentachlorbenzyl chloride.
