Davits.-Relates to davits of the kind in which arms working in vertical planes terminate in sectors which roll on horizontal tracks secured to the deck. The davits comprise standards A terminating in bifurcated arms connected by a sector a which is journaled at the points a<1>, a<2> in slots b cut in side frames B. The davits are worked by chains E passing round pitch wheels e, e<1> and attached to the standard at D by pivoted links or arms d. The slots b are shaped so that the sector a travels along its groove c without any slipping and at the same time the point D to which the actuating chain is attached travels in an horizontal path. To enable the boat to clear the deck edge when being swung out, the hoist rope H is carried round a pulley h<1> on the standard, next round a pulley mounted adjacent to the journal a<1>, and is then made fast to a fixed point.
