Disazo and tetrakisazo dyes are obtained by combining one or two molecular proportions of diazoazo compounds, containing no amino or hydroxy groups, with 2:2<1>-dinaphthylamine- 5:5<1>-dioxy-7:7<1>-disulphonic acid; two molecules of the same or of different diazoazo compounds may be used. Aminoazo compounds are specified containing as first component p-nitraniline-osulphonic acid, aniline, o-anisidine, m-aminobenzoic acid, chloraniline sulphonic acids, chlortoluidine sulphonic acids, xylidine sulphonic acids, naphthylamine sulphonic acids, and as second component 1-naphthylamine-6- or -7- sulphonic acid, p-xylidine, cresidine, or alphanaphthylamine. The products can be applied. to cotton by dyeing or printing and developed on the fibre with diazotized nitranilines, red, . violet, and blue shades being thus produced.
