Abstract
9620. Newton, P. A., [Farbenfabriken vorm. F. Bayer & Co.]. April 20. Trisazo dyes are obtained by combining the tetrazo compounds prepared from p-aminophenylazo-#- amino-a-naphthol-#-sulphonic acids with one molecular proportion of a 1 : 8-aminonaphthol sulphonic acid in acid solution and with one molecular proportion of resorcin, m-phenylenediamine, or maminophenol, or suitable derivatives thereof ; the same dyes are obtained by combining diazotized p-aminoacetanilide with #-amino-alpha-naphthol-#- sulphonic acid, diazotizing and combining with 1 : 8 - aminonaphthol sulphonic acids in acid solution, saponifying the products, rediazotizing, and combining with resorcin &c. ; or by combining diazotized p-aminoacetanilide or p-nitraniline with 1 : 8-aminonaphthol sulphonic acids in acid solution, saponifying or reducing, rediazotizing and combining with #-amino-alpha-naphthol-#-sulphonic acid, rediazotizing and combining with resorcin &c. In the first two of the above cases the order of combination may be reversed. According to an example, the diazo compound of p-aminoacetanilide is combined with 2-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid, the product is saponified, tetrazotized, and combined first with 1 : 8-aminonaphthol-4 : 6-disulphonic acid and then with resorcin. The following components are also specified :-2-amino- 8-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid ; 1 : 8-aminonaphthol-4- or -5-sulphonic acid or -3 : 6-disulpbonic acid. The products dye cotton blue to black shades ; the dyeings may be developed with diazo compounds, such as diazotized p-nitraniline, one molecular proportion of dye combining with two molecular proportions of diazo compound, giving black shades. Specifications 25,018/94 and 20,278/97 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 19,743/92, 4979/93, and 15,269/93.
