Abstract
8895. Jensen, P., [Jeffrey Manufacturing Co.]. April 10. Coal - cutting machines. -A coal and like mineral cutting machine of the long - wall type has no rapidly turning spurwheels, the cutting and feeding mechanisms being driven by worms on the opposite ends of the armature shaft of the electric motor. As shown, the armature shaft of the motor 27 is disposed obliquely, and drives, at one end, through a dogclutch 29, 30, a worm 34 driving the cutting-chain. The other end of the armature shaft carries a worm 53 driving the hauling-drum through a wormwheel and mechanism described in Specification 6285/12. The worm 34 with its worm-wheel 10, Fig. 3, are enclosed in a two-part casing 9<a>, 9<b>, each part having a bearing 12, 13 for the vertical shaft carrying the worm - wheel and cutting - chain sprocket 14. The cutting-arm 16 is carried on a swivelling turntable engaging an annular flange 18 on the part 9<a>, a ring 19 securing it in position. The arm is swung into the working face by the hauling-cable, as described in Specification 6285/12. The switch handle 83 is disposed at the front of the machine.
