Abstract

5591. Newton, P. A., [Hoe & Co., R.]. March 6. Stapling.-Relates to stapling - mechanisms, particularly for use in stapling webs or sheets while in motion, of the kind in which wire is fed at right-angles into a groove in a horn or former, and a length cut off, which is caught up by a co-operating staple-forming mechanism mounted on a rotating carrier, and swept forward along the horn at the same time as it is bent into staple form. The invention consists in the provision of an improved device positively to hold the wire lengths in the groove in the horn and mounted to yield to permit them to be removed readily by the staple-forming mechanism. This device consists of a block 4, Figs. 2 and 5, pivotally mounted on a pin 6 in a recess in the horn 1, and provided with a forwardlyextending finger 7 which underlies the wire channel 2, and a rearward extension 8 which is acted upon by a spring 9. The usual guiding- finger 11 is provided, and is recessed, as shown, to provide space for the holding-device.
