Abstract
5589. Claude, G. March 7, 1910, [Convention date]. Argon, helium, krypt o n, and neon are purified, after introduction into a vacuum tube T for electric lighting, by absorption of foreign gases. Carbon may be placed in a bulb R connected with the lamp and immersed in liquid air or nitrogen. The original pressure of the gas may be about that of 2 cm. of mercury, and its final pressure about that of 1 mm. If hydrogen is present, it is first oxidized by heated copper oxide. Oxygen and nitrogen may be removed by lithium.
