Abstract
4657. Auld, J., and Graham, J. Feb. 24. Safety-valves. -- A safety - valve of the type having a loaded main valve and fitted with an actuating piston under the control of a loaded duplex auxiliary valve, has the auxiliary valve actuated by a diaphragm and is provided with a non-return valve in the inlet to or the outlet from the auxiliary valve. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the main valve 4 is loaded by a weighted lever 23 fitted with a dash-pot and has a water seal the level of which is controlled by pipes 20, 21. The actuating-piston 3 is arranged in a cylinder 5 below the main valve and is controlled by a duplex lift valve 15, 16 actuated by a diaphragm 10 loaded by a weighted lever 13. The outlet from the auxiliary valve is fitted with a non - return valve 19 which may be water sealed. In a modification, the actuating-piston is arranged above the main valve and the valve 19 is arranged in the inlet to the auxiliary valve.
