Anthranol; dianthrone. - Anthranol is produced by heating anthraquinone in aqueous or acetic acid suspension with iron and hydrochloric acid, with iron and ferrous chloride, or with ferrous chloride alone. By adding ferric chloride to the anthranol solution and boiling, dianthrone results.
