Abstract
142. Johnson, J. Y., [Badische Anilin & Soda Fabrik]. Jan. 3. Gases &c., treating electrically.-In apparatus for separating electrically from gases solid or liquid impurities, such as smoke, fog, and dust, the electrode from which the brush discharge emanates is made to rotate. The electrodes may be made of any suitable metal, or of carbon, and may be rotated by any suitable means, for instance by the incoming gases or by the reaction produced by the brush discharge itself. In the latter form, the electrode consists of arms M<1>, M<2>, Figs. 1 and 2, radiating from a spindle E mounted in an insulated frame R. The ends of the electrodes are curved as shown in Fig. 2, so that the brush discharge sets up a rotation of the electrode. In another form, an armature is attached to a spindle, and is set in motion by a rotating magnetic field. The collecting - electrode may also be allowed to rotate. Specification 5969/08 is referred to.
