Expanding tables.-A circular table is so constructed that it may be extended by imparting a radial movement to four sections and then filling up the spaces so formed between the sections by means of leaves pivoted in the underframe. Fig. 1 shows the table in its unextended state, and in Fig. 5 a first or intermediate extension has been produced. Fig. 7 shows the table in its second or fully-extended state. The pivoted leaves consist of two sets, arranged at right-angles to one another. The first set comprises a double or divided leaf 1, 1<Î>, hinged at 6, the parts of which may be turned separately or together about the pivots 2, while the second set comprises two pairs of leaves 9, 9x, 10, 10<Î>, hinged at 13, 14 and pivoted on shafts 12. All of these leaves usually lie below the level of the table, but when turned on their shafts, rise and become flush with the surface of the radially movable sections 5, while the leaves 9<Î>, 10<Î> can also move transversely and longitudinally upon the shafts 13. To obtain the first extension, the parts 5 are moved outwards, the central part 1 of the divided leaf is turned on its pivot and opened out on its hinges, and the leaves 9x, 10<Î> are turned and opened out and then moved transversely and longitudinally into the position shown in Fig. 5. To obtain the second extension, the whole of the divided leaf 1, 1<Î> is opened out, and the two pairs of leaves 9, 9<Î>, 10, 10<Î> are turned into the position shown in Fig. 7.
