Abstract

Vehicles with tables.-Inarailway carriage in which a recess for receiving a collapsible table is provided in the floor, the table is supported on telescopic cross-frames and is provided with flaps which can be opened out to enlarge the table when raised, or folded over to form part of the floor when the table is lowered. Pairs of supports, each consisting of two rods 4, 7 slidably connected together by lips 6, 11, are hinged at 3 within a recess 2 in the flooring, and at 8 to a strip of wood &c. 16, Fig. 3. The strip 16 has hinged flaps 9, which are folded over the strip 16 to fill the opening of the recess 2 when the strip is lowered and opened out to form a table when it is raised. Slots 5, 10 are formed in the rods 4, 7 to take a bolt 12, the four supports of the table being spaced apart by a tube 14 and washers 13 and clamped in their extended position by a wing-nut 15. The washers 13 are preferably chamfered, corresponding chamfers being formed on the adjoining edges of the slots 5, 10. The flaps 9 normally lie flush with the flooring, the strip 16 resting on stops 18, and the table is raised to the desired height by means of tabs 19.
