Abstract
30,001. Hemming, C. H. Dec. 24. Disk and wheel apparatus.-A machine for polishing cutlery is constructed with two buffing- wheels on parallel shafts carried by rocking arms. The wheels are automatically brought together to engage opposite sides of the knifeblade, which is moved to and fro between them. The wheels 1, 2, are carried by rocking arms 5, 6, moved towards each other at the appropriate time by a cam 17 on a cam shaft 18 engaging a roller 16 mounted on one arm 6, the arms being connected through links 19, 20, 21; when the wheels are together, the arm 6 is locked by a latch 24 until disengaged on the completion of the process by a cam 28. The knife i$carried on a slide 47, being held with its edge upwards by a fork which is disengaged from it by the inward movement of the slide. The slide is moved inwards by a lever arm 50 operated from a cam 53, and on its return stroke is raised to present the lower part of the blade to the polishing-wheels by a lever 66, 67 moved by a cam 74. A lever 75 moves the belt to the fast pulley 81 for starting the machine, which is automatically stopped by the escape of a pin 83 from a scroll 85 allowing the belt-shipper to remove the belt to the loose pulley.
