Abstract

282,603. Sumbling, W. H. July 1, 1927. Ironing-machines with rollers rotating against concave surfaces; ironing-machines, feeding- arrangements for.-The spindle 16 of the roller 19 of a Decoudun is secured to the roller at one end only by a hub 24, the other end of the roller being supported by anti-friction annular members 27 which rotate on a sleeve 20 enclosing the spindle 16. The sleeve is secured to a head 18 carried on an arm 17 pivoted to the main frame 3 about the point 31, a slot 19 being provided in the frame to permit movement of the head 18 to engage and disengage the gears 15, 14. The gear 15 is secured on the spindle 16 and, when the roller is in operative position, meshes with gear 14 carried by a stationary stub-shaft 13 and driven by chain and worm-gearing from an electric motor or by other power means. At the lower end of the arm 17 there is provided a tubular member 30 which extends parallel to and in the same direction as the roller 19 and is secured to a rock-shaft 31 bv a set-screw 32. One end of the rock-shaft is carried bv a block 33 which can swing in a horizontal plane in a slot 34 in the frame about a pivot 35; the other end of the shaft is carried bv a block 36 which can be caused to slide against a spring in a slot in the frame. A handle 45, Fig. 3, is provided for effecting this sliding movement of the rock-shaft bearings, thereby resulting in a limited movement of the roller to and from the shoe 29 in a substantially horizontal plane. The swinging movement of the arm 17 to move the roller into and out of operative contact with the shoe is controlled by an arm 63 pivoted to the frame at 61 and linked to a lever arm 53 projecting from the arm 17, the relative positions of pivots 61, 58 and the adjustment of the spring 65 being such that the arm and roller are locked in operative position. A treadle 49 is linked to lever arms 47 integral with the sleeve 30; depression of the treadle moves the roller slightly out of contact with the shoe, sufficient to permit adjustment of the work but insufficient to disengage gears 15, 14, the spring 65 returning the treadle. The feedboard 67 is pivoted at 68 at one end to the machine frame and is counterweighted at 72 to maintain it in a vertical position to give unobstructed access to the roller. The other end of the board is supported by a pivoted leg 69.
