Abstract

Stiffeners.-A support for ladies' collars consists of a curved spring 1, which is adapted to contract lengthways under pressure, as by the movement of the head of the wearer. The ends of the spring may be formed as eves to be sewn to the collar; or, as shown in Fig. 1, they may be formed as hooks 2 to engage with buttons sewn on the collar. Fig. 3 shows a collar 7 provided with two such supports 8, 9 engaged with buttons 10. When the collar is of tulle or other thin material, bands may be connected to the buttons &c. to prevent it from being overstretched by the springs.
