26,895. Nicholson, A. Nov. 19. Mats.-Boot-cleaning attachments for motorcars &c. comprise a scraper and brush or mat, so arranged as to be covered when not in use. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the box a is fixed to the footboard of the vehicle, and has a lid b, to the underside of which is fixed the mat m, while the scraper is formed of a series of plates g, so arranged that the removed dirt will fall into the tray l, from which it is ejected at the inner side of the footboard. In cases where the area of the footboard is limited, the box a may be attached at its upper end to the car framework and at its lower end to the footboard. When in use, the hinged'lid carrying the mat rests on the footboard, and when not in use it is turned back into the box. A modification is shown in Fig. 6, in which a bevelled edge v acts as the scraper, while the lid b can be turned about the hinge 4 on to the top of the tool-box 2. Fig. 8 shows another modification, in which the vehicle door 6 carries a cover b, so that the mat m is uncovered when the door is opened but is covered as the door is closed. The mat itself may be mounted on the door so as to slide under the vehicle as the door is closed.
