Abstract
26,770. Timewell, A. W., and Sack- Filling and Sewing Machine Syndicate. Nov. 17. Sack-sewing machines.-The platform a<1> carrying the sewing - mechanism is vertically adjustable in the frame a, and the driving-belt a<6> running between the pulley a<7> on the frame and the pulley a<5> on the platform, is kept tight under a l l conditions by passing it over pulleys on studs b<4>, b<3> on the frame and an extension b<2> of the platform respectively. The platform is balanced by a counterweight, and is adjusted by a hand-wheel or by rack - and - pinion gearing. Thechain b<1>, which drives the conveyer mechanism at the floor level in synchronism with the sewing-mechanism, runs over sprocket - wheels b, c, and is led over sprocket-wheels on the studs b<3>, b<4>. In the sewing-mechanism, the looper is arranged above the needle. In order to keep the stitches taut when no work is passing through the machine, two gripping - rollers c', Fig. 6, one of which is driven, and the other of which is pressed against the first by a spring d<4>, are provided between the needle and the cutter c<5>.
