Driving machines.-A cone pulley 3 of a drilling &c. machine is driven by a belt 9 which passes over guide pulleys 10 to a driving-drum 7. The belt is shifted over the cone pulley by moving the pulleys 10 along a fixed inclined guide-bar 15. This is done by a pinion 16 upon the carrier 13 of the guide pulleys engaging a rack on the bar 15 and operated by a hand-wheel 12. Belt tension is normally maintained by a weight 19 connected to the slide 13 by a cord 17.
