Abstract

[Cognate Application, 4344/11.] Screw propellers.-A propeller, particularly adapted for raising aerial vessels, consisting of one or more convolutions of a helix, has a flange projecting axially around the rim, and also a baffle-plate at the end of the helix; the upper convolution can be closed by a hinged plate so as to act as a parachute. As shown in Fig. 5, the propeller A is fixed to the vertical rotating shaft B, and is provided with a vertical flange K. The baffle-plate L is fixed to the lower radius of the helix. and to the shaft B. The hinged plate M is pivoted at N to the under surface of the upper convolution, and, when closed, bears against stops on the upper surface of the lower convolution.
