Driving-mechanism. - Relates to a drive for high-speed paper-making machinery comprising in combination means whereby the various sections can be gradually started and stopped independently, and means for effecting the necessary speed reduction without the intervention of toothed gearing. The various sections are driven by belts f passing over pulleys g, e, the lower one e of which is carried in a pivoted frame h, adapted to be moved about its pivot k, to slacken or to tighten the belt f, by a segmental rack i and a pinion j, which is operated from a hand-wheel v. The pulleys e are driven by ropes passing over pulleys a on the same shaft. Strikers y are provided to vary the position of the belt f.
