Abstract

24,148. Crepar, T. M. Oct. 18. Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, arrangement and construction of. - An aerial machine fitted with a boat-shaped car 5<a> is provided with two fish-shaped supporting-planes 15, 24, concave at the front edge 40, Fig. 2, and having apertures in which elevating-planes 29 with vertical keels 30 are pivoted. Two side cords 41 are attached to the points 43 of the planes and diverge, being connected to the frame of the planes, and third cords 42 inclined downwardly. Light fabric 44 is secured to the cords 41, and is disposed under the cord 42, thus forming wedge-like surfaces. Propelling.-Two propellers 51 are mounted in an aperture in the lower plane, and one propeller 48 is similarly mounted on the upper plane. The propellers 51 are driven from the main shaft by belting, and each of the propeller shafts 50 is connected by belting to the shaft of the propeller 48. Steering; stopping way. - The elevating- planes 29 with circular vertical keels 30 can be independently operated, as shown in Fig. 6, in sets, or the whole may be so connected that they are simultaneously operated. Vertical rudders 53 in tandem are fitted, and are operated through cords by hand-wheels 71, 68 or a footlever 77 connected to concentric axles so as to permit them to be operated independently. By turning the rudders oppositely, they act as a brake on the machine.
