Abstract

19,858. Stephens, R. G. Aug. 25. Book &c. rests; desks combined with or convertible into tables.-A combined book-rest, music-stand, &c. and table comprises a top formed of two hinged parts b, c on a narrow base a, arranged so that one part c may be supported in an inclined position on the other part b as shown in Fig. 4, to form a book-rest &c. Both parts may be lowered to form a complete table top, as shown in Fig. 1. The inner edge of the part c is bevelled to permit it to occupy an inclined position, and a bevelled piece a<2> is provided on the base a to form a stop for the part b. This may be provided with a strip of rubber having a roughened surface so as to support the part c by friction in various angular positions; or clips or catches may be used for the same purpose. Pivoted holders c may be fitted to the edge of the base a, and a box or receptacle may be fitted to it on the underside. The whole may be mounted on telescopic or detachable legs.
