Abstract
19,132. Morgan, D. J. Aug. 15. Tobacco pipes and cigar a n d cigarette holders are provided with a trap and fittings for trapping the nicotine and moisture by the natural handling of the pipe &c., and for preventing the noxious juices and fumes from coming in contact with the smoke. Fig. 1 shows a pipe having a plug N and a trap D provided with valves E which open and close by the handling of the pipe. A smoke passage H passes through the trap and an aperture J through the stem and trap with a cover K<2> is provided for the escape of noxious fumes. In a modification, a solid cover is provided on the bowl, and a side aperture in the bowl to limit the formation of noxious juices. When the valve E at the bowl end is dispensed with, the trap D may be provided with a suitable absorbent material. In another modification, the smoke passage may be outside the stem, and the trap may be plugged at the bowl end. Fig. 4 shows an aperture G, which is opened and closed at will by rotating the mouthpiece, to which is attached the disk E having an aperture G<2>. Fig. 16 shows a pipe which is provided with a trap D and a spring-controlled valve E, which .is operated by a button P<2>. Fig. 22 shows a cigar or cigarette holder in which the smoke-tube H pierces the cigar or cigarette.
