Carpet-sweepers.-The bail or handle E of a carpet-sweeper is provided near its pivot e<1> with a cam e engaging on its upper and lower surfaces with springs G in order to give the desired rigidity between the bail and the sweeper. The springs may be of the laminated type with their ends held in slots in a bracket F, or they may be of wire with their ends secured by staples. The handle may be locked in the vertical position by engaging a notch in a bevelled plate D secured to the side of the sweeper case.
