Abstract
15,956. Hill, H. J. July 12, 1909, [Convention date]. Transferring articles to or from trains in motion.-Mail-bags are delivered from a moving train by being connected to a ring 14 which is lifted out of a support 17 by a receiver 28 on the track. The support, Fig. 2, comprises a fixed channel groove 15 mounted on a swinging frame 13 pivoted to the car side, and a pivoted groove 17 which normally occupies the position shown in full lines, Fig. 2, due to its weight and the spring 21. The weight of the mail-bag acting on the tongue 19 maintains the support closed. The receiver 28, Fig. 9, enters the ring 14 and raises it from the support 17, which therefore opens. The ring rises over the highest point of the receiver and falls down on to the part 30, which is provided with a buffer 32.
