Mail-bag catchers and dischargers.-The mail-bag 2 to be delivered from the car is suspended on a flexible arm 6, loosely mounted in a socket at the top of the car and inclined at an angle to the railway. At the end of the arm is formed a loop 9 which is caught by the point of a catcher 10<A> fixed at the station- The catcher 10<A> is curved as shown on a smaller scale in Fig. 3, and points towards the approaching train. The bag 3 to be delivered to the train is suspended on a similar arm 12, loosely mounted in a socket on the post 11 at the station. The loop at the end of the arm engages with a catcher on the car, shown in plan in Fig. 2 at 15, and is held therein by a spring catch 16. The catcher 15 is mounted on a sleeve 18, sliding on a bar 19, and cushioned by spring. The bar can be rotated through a quarter of a revolution to place the catcher out of action. The catcher can be reversed when the train is travelling in the opposite direction.
