Abstract
24,346. Sutter, J. Sandoz-. Sept. 11, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Rail-cleaners.-A railcleaner for use on tramcars is adapted to adjust itself automatically according to the direction of motion of the vehicle. A shaft d is mounted so as to slide in two vertical slots b, in a support a fixed to the car, and has the boss h of a member i turning freely on it. The boss h is centred on the shaft d by means of springs m, n, and has a projection g fixed to it, which passes through a slotf in a member e, freely mounted on the shaft d, which serves to prevent the direct friction of the springs on the support. The cleaners comprise pointed parts r, s, for the groove, and wings u, v, w, x for the top of the rail, and they are carried by the arm i. The weight of the movable parts keeps the cleaners in contact with the rails, and when the direction of motion of the vehicle is reversed the position of the cleaners is altered as shown in Fig. 5.
