Abstract

14,595. Smith, J. W. June 16. Moistening; washing.-Apparatus for moistening, washing, and disinfecting air comprises a casing 2, within which is mounted a centrifugal fan 7 driven by an electric motor 10. Below the casing is supported a liquid-receptacle 20, into which depends a tube 19 having a small orifice 23<a> at the base, and within which rotates blade 26 carried on an extension of the motor and fan shaft. The liquid in the tube 19 is rotated, rises on the sides of the tube and overflows into the casing 2. Air enters the casing through a central opening in the baffle-plate 28, is brought into contact with the liquid, thrown centrifugally against the side walls of the chamber so as to -remove excess of moisture, and escapes between the plate 28 and a baffle ring 27 to outlet pipes 16 and a manifold 17. Passages are provided for excess liquid from the casing 2 to drain back to the receptacle 20.
