Abstract

12,953. Derain, L. G., and Mallison, G. May 27. Squirting.-A divided die is employed, and the die-parts are separated after the operation to permit the removal of the work from the press. The dieparts 20, 21, Fig. 10, are mounted on bolsters 22, 23 by semicylindrical ribs 24 and plates 26. The bolsters are backed up by thrustblocks 29 dowelled to plungers 18, 19, Fig. 4, operated to open and close the die by cam bars 41 carried by the container-slide 37. The bowls 46, which force the die-parts together, act through draw-rods 49 and springs 51 to permit the final closure by the end of the container, as shown in Fig. 10. The extrusion cylinder is pivoted at 1, Fig. 1, for convenience in effecting repairs &c. and is secured by bolts 6. The ram 7 is dovetailed into a cross-head 8, connected to the rams of retraction - cylinders 15, and carrying a plunger 10 mounted on a slide 9 to allow access to the bore of the container. The plunger-head 11 is detachable, and, when a mandrel is employed, the head is a frictional fit for the mandrel at 12. The container is mounted in a conical seating, trunnioned in the slide 37 to facilitate removal, and provided with locking- bolts 39, 40. The slide 37 may be connected at 54 to bolts 53 on the cross-head for complete retraction. It is then disconnected from its actuating-cylinder (not shown), and the plunger 18 is held up by a detent.
