Abstract

9312. Birmingham Small Arms Co.. and Nicholls, R. April 18. Tanks.-Comprises a construction of filler and cap or plug, particularly applicable to oil and petrol tanks on motor-vehicles, which is adapted to collect and return any overflow of the contents to the tank. The filler preferably is permanently connected to the tank and is provided with an annular flange 5, a ring of holes 9, and a threaded cap-engaging portion. The cap is provided with a vent-hole 8, and two annular flanges 12, 11, the latter of which has a roughened outer surface to form a hand grip, or is suitably shaped to receive a spanner &c. Any leakage of the contents through the venthole or the screw-threads is received by the gallery 6, and returned to the tank through the holes 9 when the stopper is removed. The Provisional Specification states that the filler may be bell-mouthed.
