Abstract
9025. McQueen, J., and Reid, T. Oct. 12. Hooks, automatic release.-A mine cage is connected to the winding-rope by a pair of pivoted links R having semicircular recesses for the cross - bar of the shackle N. The links are held together by projections R<1> on a bar U which is pressed upwards from the top of the cage by springs V. When the cage rises too high, the bar U is depressed relatively to the cage by cross-bars fixed to the framework above the pithead, and the links R separate to allow the release of the winding-rope. Hooks R<2> on the links catch on the fixed cross-bars and suspend the cage.
