Abstract

4348. Arthur, G. W. Feb. 22. Stirrup-strap suspenders.-A safety saddle-bar' is constructed so that the stirrup strap may be released when the rider is thrown forwards, rearwards, or sideways. The strap rests upon the bar c provided with hinged supports d, e drawn together by a spring f. Eyes d<3>, e<3> on the supports d, e engage with the upper bar a, which is fitted with spring-pressed bits g adapted to turn and allow the release of the strap. The bar a may be hinged to the plate i; or it may be provided with a lug a<2> passing through an aperture i<2> in the plate i and kept normally in place by a spring behind the plate i. An upward pull of the strap causes the lug a<2> to be disengaged from the plate i.
