Abstract

8561. Jones, E., and Kynoch, Ltd. April 8. Machine guns; cartridge belts.-Relates to cartridge-feed mechanism in which the cartridgecarrier is advanced by the direct coaction of projections thereon with cams on the breech-block, and consists in moving the belt over a fixed incline so as to remove the cartridges transversely from the belt without previous longitudinal movement. The invention is shown in Figs. 1 and 2 applied to a gun of the kind described in Specification 13,419/09, in which cams 9, 10 on the reciprocating breech-bolt t impart a two-step rotary motion to a cartridge-carrier 11 by operating upon a feed-wheel 14. The cartridges are, during the rotation of the carrier, forced directly out of clips 40 on the cartridge belt 20 by the action of a fixed incline 19 on the gun casing instead of being first drawn longitudinally from the belt as in the above-mentioned Specification. To facilitate the action of the incline 19, the cartridges are supported above the surface of the belt, as shown in Fig. 6, by the heads 42 of the rivets which unite the clips 40 and belt 20.
