6735. Becker, M. March 17. Emergency release arrangements.- Runaway horses are released by disconnecting two parts of the traces and by fitting the pole with a detachable cap. One method of coupling the two parts 1, 3 of a trace is shown in Fig. 1. By pulling on a cord 8, a ring 7 is swung from over the end of a sliphook 4, compressing a spring 13 under a plate 12. The release of the spring tends to disconnect the hook 4 from the ring 2. As shown in Fig. 2, a pin 20 carried by the trace 1 is engaged by hooks 25, 24 carried by the part 3. By pulling on the cord 8, a hinged plate 23 is drawn over a spring catch 27, and, in swinging, disconnects the hooks 24, 25, thus disconnecting the two parts of the trace. The pole is fitted with a cap 14 having a single or double eye 18, 19 for the links of the pole chain.
