143,332. Schermuly, A. W. L. March 3, 1919. Coupling.-Relates to devices of the kind described in Specification 135,270 for connecting ropes, chains, bands, &c. The pieces a<5>, Fig. 1, which form the closure of the gap in the hook b are hinged at e to the fixed member a of the device, and are pressed to their closing positions by springs f. The pieces a<5> are thus capable of yielding under pressure to allow the loop of the rope, &c., to pass through the gap of the hook. The release is effected without any manipulation of the pieces a<5> being necessary. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which only one piece a<5> is required. The springs f and the lower parts of the pieces a<5>, Fig. 1, may be covered by casings.
